Gun Rights Groups Plan Weekend San Antonio Rally
Second Amendment advocates will rally at the San Antonio Police Department West Substation on Culebra Road on Sunday to express their opposition to the tasing of a teenager last week for carrying a loaded rifle down the street, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"What we've got here in the case of a police officer who abused his authority and assaulted a citizen for the mere fact that he was carrying a firearm well within his rights in the state of Texas," said C.J. Grisham of Open Carry Texas.

Grisham says the teenager has hired an attorney and a lawsuit against the police and the city is anticipated.

A 19 year old man was approached by police near Donaldson and St. Cloud Sunday night, and the officers told him that they had received reports that he was pointing the rifle at individuals.  A tape of the confrontation shows the teenager consistently respectful, but stressing that he was doing nothing wrong.

When he refused to drop the rifle, which he said was loaded, officers zapped him with a Taser, knocking him to the ground.

He was charged under a city statute which makes it illegal to carry a loaded rifle in public.  Grisham says the city statute should be superseded by state law which specifically allows the practice.

"San Antonio is the only city that has got this ordinance in violation of state law," he said.
